DALLAS
"Live Large.  Think Big"

Dallas' new slogan describes the essence and vitality of a city built on big dreams, freshly blazed trails and an attitude that all things are possible.
Sophisticated and diverse, comfortable and friendly!  These are some of the words used by visitors and those of us who call it home to describe our city.  Sometimes people who have not been to Dallas have a preconceived opinion about the city - one northeastern newspaper writer recently mentioned the area where President George W. Bush would be living had a nice "mountain view"!  Well, we unfortunately don't have mountains (obviously this writer hadn't been anywhere near Dallas lately), and we don't all have oil wells in our back yard, wear ten gallon hats, worry about cactus and rattlesnakes or spend all our time at the rodeo.  In other words forget about what you saw on the TV show Dallas and in western movies.  Dallas - and the surrounding towns that make up The Metroplex - is an extraordinary city that is built on a rich cultural heritage.  The city offers a thriving culinary scene (every type of cuisine imaginable with enough restaurants to dine at a different one each night and still not hit them all in a decade), all of the professional sports and, trendy entertainment districts and endless shopping opportunities.  Good schools, well landscaped yards, parks and communities with pools, tennis courts and hiking trails welcome families of all sizes and ages from the edge of the city out to the far suburban areas.  Downtown and uptown offer lofts, townhouses, galleries and sophistication for the urban dweller.

From Dallas to Fort Worth and all the surrounding cities in between, the area offers such a variety of lifestyles that everyone can find a place that will feel just like home!  Whether you like high-rise living or want a two-acre spread, whether you like the symphony or the rodeo, whether you are a fan of football or ballet, whether you want to dine in a sports bar or a 5 Star restaurant, whether you like shopping for bargains or shopping for the latest designer couture - well you get the idea - you will find it all in The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex!  And, even though we don't have those mountains, we have a multitude of lakes - and the mountains are just a short plane ride away.

All in all, The DFW Metroplex is a very energetic, optimistic, friendly, exciting place to live.  On these 2 pages

The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area, a title designated by the U.S. Census as of 2003, encompasses 12 counties within Texas and is informally referred to as The Metroplex by residents.

According to the U.S. Census July 1, 2007 estimates, the area has a population of 6.1 million.

The Metroplex is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the U.S.

The Metroplex is larger in area than Rhode Island and Connecticut combined.

The city of Dallas is the 9th largest city in the U.S.

The name Texas is from "Tejas", the Indian word meaning "friendly".

The elevation in the area ranges from 450 to 750 feet above sea level.

The normal average temperature in Dallas is 54 to 76 degrees F., and although the summers are warm, it is common to have winter days with temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s - shorts and flip flops weather!

are just some of the things that make it so special!
