Information obtained from the Dallas Morning News, 9/11/2008

The J.D. Powers and Associates annual rating of local home builders showed that North Texas builders in general had higher approvals than the national average in the survey.

An article in the Dallas Morning News about the survey reported that analysts say that the tough housing market may be a windfall for buyers of new homes.  "Efforts by builders to respond to changes in the market landscape have contributed to the increase in customer satisfaction in 2008", Power's Paula Sonkin said in the report.  "As a result, many homebuyers are benefiting from generous sales incentives offered by builders", she said.

"In addition, builders are doing a particularly good job of delivering homes both on time and fully complete", she said.  The study found that 93 percent of D-FW new-home buyers received sales incentives averaging more than $13,500.

The survey included D-FW builders that sold more than 125 homes in North Texas in 2007.  Almost 4,000 D-FW residents who have lived in their new houses from 4 to 18 months were surveyed.  Results were based on a 1,000-point scale.  The Power and Associates awards are coveted by builders around the country.  "When customers are looking at who they want to build their house and see someone at the top of a list, that goes a long way", said Ted Wilson of housing research firm Residential Strategies.
